Imaging

TK - from Gilbert - need to check

Symptom: Pressing “N” did not load the Net restore: terminal screen will appear.

1. In Terminal type ls –a volumes.
2. Check if Net restore volumeis available.
3. Type open /applications/utilities/Desk*Utility.app.
4. Disk Utility program should open.
5. Click on Partitions tab to create new partition.
6. Follow instructions below from Step 4.

Re-imaging

1. Use imaging Station TS #3 or TS #4.
2. Turn on the Mac and press “N” on the keyboard to boot off the network. You should see a Global logo.
3. Net Restore logo will appear.
4. Under “Source:” choose the image. For example, G5.05.02.01 is a standard image. You do not need to browse to locate the images. All images are displayed under source.
5. Make sure the following are selected:

Target: Macintosh HD
Options: Erase target disk, Restart when finished, Set target as boot disk

6. Click Restore.
7. Once computer restarts you can login as “cstech” or “administrator”. Ask for the password.

Standard images are the fastest to set up. Mac OS X takes about 30 minutes to load and configure for Active Directory after the imaging is done.

8. Check if date and time are correct. Unbind and bind with Active Directory, using “Directory Access”. Check that Forest accounts are removed, everything points to ds.usfca.edu, and “Create mobile account at log-in” is activated.

TK - Find Gilbert's “Repairing log-in errors for OS X" and "Active Directory on the USF campus” procedures.
